Floorball/Unihockey is a very popular sport in Scandinavia, Central and Eastern Europe. In Sweden for example, the number of licensed Floorball players exceed the number of Football and Ice-hockey players since a few years back. League matches and major events such as National champions and EuroFloorball Cup are televised on Eurosport and National television across Europe. Floorball which is a rapidly growing sport throughout Great Britain, is predicted by Sports England to in the next coming year become the fastest growing sport ever in the UK. There is numerous regional leagues for senior players and an annual National Cup tournament that determine who are the champions of Britain and also then eligible to represent Britain in the annual EuroFloorball Cup tournament that is played against other top club’s across Europe. Floorball for youth have in the past year engaged over 6,000 under-15 players on a weekly basis. Since the last 2 years the sport is recognised and promoted within the school system in the South West of England. In the Cotswolds there is a junior school league where 33 teams participated in the past season. Numerous clubs have been formed at Universities across the country; Cambridge, Bath, Bournemouth and Reading to name a few. |
