London Vikings Nationals 2008

Ruling Britannia

The Vikings once again proved to be the team to beat in British floorball as they stormed their way to a third title at the 2008 National Championships held at Stratford-Upon-Avon. Over the 2 days and 5 matches the squad totalled an impressive 52 goals grabbing the first five spots on the top scorers list. The ten man squad upped their game throughout the tournament winning the final against longtime rivals Cotswold Cobras 8-2, with Vikings rookie Pekka putting in a MVP-worthy performance of 3 goals and 2 assists in the game.

London Vikings would also like to thank the spectators for support, especially in the final.

Swiss conquer Hendon

Zürisee Unihockey

The Vikings hosted their first international friendly as the Swiss team Zürisee Unihockey popped by North London for a 3 x 20min clash. Something of a vagabond team, having already played friendlies in various cities across Europe, their squad consisted of players from both the first and reserve squads. This wasn't too far from the truth of the Vikings on the day as it seemed half of the team was out of town and the other half out with flu. Fortunately a 9 man squad was assembled for the occasion and the Londoners gave a good game for the visitors.

In what was a clean and good spirited game, the Helvetians took home the win with a final scoreline of 9-8. Things had looked promising for the Vikings early on in the third as the team fought back from 3-6 by a bunch of quick goals, taking a 7-6 lead, but then a combination of weary legs and overtly keen attacking saw the decisive goals being scored to the home net.

After the game the visitors were treated to an ever-so-important trip to the pub for after-game hydration. A big thank you for the whole team, and hopefully the Vikings will be able to return the favour one day, both in terms of the game and the scoreline!

Four in a row!

Vikings took home the trophy for the first ever Southern Premiere League at the last tournament of the season in Stratford-upon-Avon. This English title is now the fourth consecutive and sixth in total by the Londoners as the competition was previously arranged under the name of Southern League. Although losing the final game of the season, just like last year, this was after the league had been decided. It remains to be seen if this tradition can be broken next season. In the meantime the squads focus is set on regaining the National title after not taking part last year.

European Cup Qualifications 2006

After conquering the British floorball championship in May 2006, a slightly depleted Vikings squad set sail for Fredrikshavn, Denmark for the 2006 European Cup Qualifiers. A total of 11 national champions were fighting over which 2 would qualify to the EC Finals held later this year. The teams were divided into groups A and B, and after 3 days of almost non-stop floorball the winners would face the runners-up on Saturday for the decisive games. Read more...
